World Book Day is a registered charity. The money goes to Book Aid International and Readathon as its nominated charities, encouraging schools to hold special fundraising events for children less fortunate than themselves.

World Book Day is a day to celebrate books and to encourage children to read books and explore different genres of books. In the United Kingdom, World Book day started in 1998 mad by Tony Blair who was prime minister then.Fun fact of the day, Tony Blair was the prime minister in 1998. Since then, World Book Day has followed the same traditions but growing bigger and more activities have been added. Several million children in the UK were given a £1 token which could be used from any UK bookshop. World Book Day also celebrates illustrators and authors.

Authors Aloud is a society that allows children from the UK and abroad to have visits from authors, illustrators, poets and storytellers. This year World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday 3rd March.
