Vaisakhi is a Sikh festival which can also be spelt Baisakhi. It celebrates the Sikh new year and is celebrated on the 13th or 14th of April. Vaisakhi also celebrates the year Sikhism was born, 1699. The tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, chose that day to choose the 5 soldiers known as the Panj Piare. He asked 5 people to sacrifice their life to God. He called them one by one into the tent and each time coming out with blood on the sword. Once he had done the 5th person, he came out with all 5 men wearing turbans with Guru Gobind Singh.
In England, we have a festival and most Sikhs go. This year it will be on Wednesday, 13th of April. There will be feasts, dancing and music. I go there every year and I think it’s amazing!
